Being in the 3rd week of July, the performance of the coffee in most parts of Jimma zone looks good. Most of the flowers seated so far are growing to beans indicating the season as a heavy crop season. From the beginning of July coffee plants are under the bean development stage which is the most critical bean growth phase seeking high water requirements. The rainy weather conditions also match the water requirements of the coffee plant, as every part of Jimma Zone is receiving heavy rain these days.
However, as a major bottleneck Coffee Berry Disease (CBD) is remaining prevalent on old coffee trees which are susceptible to CBD and some other diseases despite less productivity compared to young coffee trees.
